PROBUS Outdoors Club – Marten Lake

Third time lucky with the weather? Let’s try to paddle Marten Lake. We will plan to paddle Thursday, July 27th – may the weather forecast not change. Currently the forecast is for no rain.
Betty’s directions are below but I am sure most of you have them memorized by now. Same plan as previously. Paddle to that beach destination. Bring your lunch and lots of water. The forecast is for warm weather.
If you’re looking for a destination paddle in the next few days, the pink water lilies are blooming at Restoule Provincial Park. The water level is still high, which made paddling through that channel easy this year. If you want directions to find the pink water lilies, email me.

Betty’s directions from last August…
Directions:
– north on Highway 11,
– turn right on Marten Lake Road,
– drive east approximately 3 km crossing two “single lane” bridges,
– boat launch is on the right hand side.
There is parking on both sides of the road. There aren’t any washrooms or picnic tables.
Betty brought the TP last year, I will bring some this year
Marten Lake Road is between Bidwell Road and Beaverland Road. Those are your landmarks. Don’t confuse Marten Lake with Marten River. We are turning off Highway 11 south of Marten River and the provincial park. If you reach the park, then you have gone too far and you are headed towards a totally different adventure.
This week will be a longer than usual paddle, so be prepared. There will be a paddling destination of getting to a beach which apparently is Crown Land. (This was researched by Norm last summer). It is my understanding that the goal of the beach didn’t happen last year, so we’ll try again. The plan is to bring our lunches and eat at the destination beach. Bring your lunch, a snack if needed and lots of water.
