Activities (#229)

The PROBUS Club of North Bay & District runs a variety of activities aimed at helping our members get to know each other better.

We have regular Monthly Meetings which provide socialization and the opportunity to hear some great guest speakers.  Our monthly meetings are held on the 1st Wednesday of each month, from 10:00am to noon, at the North Bay Shrine Club. Watch for an email to see who the guest speaker will be.

We often have Social Events, which include lunches and dinners at local restaurants and casual open-houses at members’ houses. We’re always working on future social events and will add them to the Calendar and notify you via email as we book them.

You might be interested in one or more of the following Special Interest Groups. Some of these groups are restricted to members of the #229 club, some are open to members of both #229 and #268 clubs, and some are truly combined groups. This is up to the discretion of each group’s convener(s) and often determined by their capacity to handle more people at their activities.

PROBUS Book Club (#229 & #268)
Our book club is convened by Jo-Ann Long. Their current schedule is to meet at 1:00pm on the 2nd Tuesday of each month. If you’re interested in joining them please get in touch with Jo-Ann by email.

PROBUS Bowling (#229 & #268)
Strike or Gutter Ball, it’s always fun.  No need to reserve, just come on down and have a ball. Contact Peter Forster by email if you have any questions.
Partners Billiards and Bowling
361 Main Street East (upstairs)
3:00pm every Wednesday

PROBUS Fun With Food (#229 & #268)
This is a great opportunity to spend a fun evening with a few of you fellow club members. We take turns hosting, with everyone bringing part of the meal to make it easy and fun for all. If you are interested in participating, please let Ghislaine Côté know vie email.  Both couples and singles are welcome to join.

How it works:  Each month, participants are separated into groups of between six to 10, who then get together to enjoy a meal.  A host is named for each group, who is responsible for the main course.  The others contribute the side dishes, desert, appetizers, etc.  Most get-togethers are on weekends, but there is nothing preventing them from taking place on weekdays.  Also, most gatherings are for dinner, but brunches have also taken place.  It is up to the host, in consultation with the guests.  Depending on the number of participants, one gets to host once or twice a year.

PROBUS Movie Club – The Movie Club is currently suspended. Hopefully on a temporary basis. They would meet at the Galaxy Cinemas in the North Bay Mall on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of each month for the matinee movie which starts @ 2:25 p.m. They didn’t necessarily sit together as a group but gathered after the movie at the coffee shop in the Mall for discussion. The movie club needs a convener.

PROBUS Outdoors Club (#229 & #268)
The Outdoors Club gives all of us an opportunity to participate in more seasonal outdoor activities including biking, hiking, paddling and snowshoeing.
We’ll generally meet every 2nd Thursday at 10:00 AM. Our convener is Barb Roberts. Get in touch with Barb via email to get on the mailing list so you’ll know what they have planned.

PROBUS Slow Pokes
This group specializes in even, non-hilly walks, easy on the limbs and allowing lots of opportunity to chat. Contact Helena at martyandhelena@gmail.com

PROBUS Walkers (#229 & #268)
This active group meets every Tuesday and Friday at  10:00am for a one hour walk, after which they have an hour of what they call their “reward” – coffee and socializing. They walk at a different place each time so you’ll have to get on their mailing list to find out where to meet them. If you have any questions, or want to be on their mailing list, please get in touch with Bob Barnett via email. Get off your couch and join them! This, and the Monday Walking Group hosted by #268, are open to members of both clubs.

Other Ideas? We are always looking for ideas for new Special Interest Groups. If you have an idea please get in touch with Barb Roberts to discuss it with her. You can talk to Barb at a meeting or reach out to her via email.
