PROBUS Outdoors Club – Turtle Lake

A big thank you to Betty T. for helping out with the Outdoor group while we were away. Betty, we all enjoyed your emails. Thank you again. ?

Our next paddle will be from the Stepping Stones boat launch at the end of Macpherson Drive, in Corbeil. There is plenty of parking and washrooms. The plan is to paddle the Mattawa River through the narrows and into Turtle Lake. We have paddled this area before but due to winds never made it to our destination. The round trip will be about 14 km (it might even be only 12 km). To put this in perspective, last week we paddled 7.6 km and we all would have paddled further but the river got narrow so we turned around. There is a destination once we get into Turtle Lake – we will stop, exit our boats and eat our lunches on shore, with maybe even a dip in the water. Then we’ll paddle back to the boat launch. It will be a fun paddle, but a longer one. Our paddling excursions in terms of distance and location do vary each week, same as the weather. Last year we paddled the other direction on Trout lake, portaged our kayaks, ate our lunches at the Moore’s, stopped at Cathy & Brenda’s dock, and paddled about 12 km in total. The previous year we paddled Lake Nosbonsing, in September, and ate lunch at a dock – that was over a 12 km paddle as well. Hope this helps.

Currently both AccuWeather and Environment Canada are forecasting rain on Thursday. I will keep checking the weather forecast and hopefully the rain will hold off. Expect an email from me very early Thursday a.m. if the weather looks at all cloudy.  Please let me know if you plan to attend by Wednesday, June 29th.
